Cholesterol plays a vital role in the body. The liver manufactures cholesterol, and it also comes from animal sources. Cholesterol plays a large role in hormone production that regulates the functioning of the body. Similar to fat chemically, cholesterol is however not an energy source. Heart disease appears to be a hormonal disease, due to an imbalance in cholesterol.
